Privacy policy
A plain description of what we collect, what we do not, and what you can control.
Last updated: 1 March 2025
The short version
You do not need an account to use StencilNest, so we hold no name, email address or password for you. The website you build — its text, images and settings — is created and stored inside your own browser and is never uploaded to us. We keep anonymous, aggregate statistics about how the site is used, and we show advertising, which uses cookies if you allow it.
What we do not collect
- No account details: no name, email address, password or profile.
- No content from the editor. Your headings, photos and contact details stay on your device.
- No payment information — there is nothing to pay for.
- No full IP addresses. We never log them and never resolve them ourselves.
- No cross-site tracking or fingerprinting by us.
Usage statistics
We run our own first-party analytics so we know which templates people find useful and where the product confuses them. It records the following for each event:
- The event itself — for example "a template was previewed" or "a ZIP was downloaded".
- The page path on this site, and which template the event relates to.
- Two random identifiers, one stored per browser and one per session, so we can count visitors and sessions without knowing who they are. They are meaningless outside this site and contain no personal data.
- The referring website's domain name only — never the full URL you came from.
- Device type, browser and operating system, derived from the request and stored only as a category (for example "mobile", "Chrome", "Android").
- An approximate country, and where the hosting platform supplies them, region and city. These come from headers our host adds; we do not perform IP lookups.
These identifiers live in your browser's local and session storage, not in cookies, and they are never shared with anyone. Clearing site data in your browser removes them permanently. Because the data cannot be linked back to an identifiable person, we treat it as aggregate statistics.
Advertising
StencilNest is free and is paid for by advertising. When advertising is enabled and you accept it, Google AdSense is loaded on some pages. Google may set cookies and use them to select and measure ads, and may process data as an independent controller under its own policies.
Nothing from the ad network loads until you choose “Accept ads”. If you decline, no ad script runs and no advertising cookie is set — and the product works identically either way. You can change your mind at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser.
Google's handling of data is described in its advertising and privacy notice. We never place advertising in the editor canvas or on the download screen. There is one ad on the build screen shown while your website is assembled; if you decline ads, that screen carries no ad.
Where your website is stored
Everything you type or upload in the editor is held in your browser's local storage so your work survives a refresh. Generating the ZIP also happens entirely in the browser — the file is assembled on your device and never passes through our servers.
The practical consequence is that your draft is tied to that browser on that device. Clearing site data, using private browsing or switching machines will lose it. Download the ZIP when you are happy with the result; that file is the durable copy.
Fonts and third-party requests
Our pages load fonts that we serve ourselves. The websites you generate link to Google Fonts, which means a visitor to your published site makes a request to Google. If you would rather avoid that, you can download the font files and change the single stylesheet link in the exported HTML — the README in your ZIP explains where it is.
Your choices and rights
- Decline advertising at any time; the banner records your choice and no ad script loads.
- Clear this site's data in your browser to erase the analytics identifiers and your saved draft.
- Use a content blocker if you prefer — the site is built to work with one running.
- Contact us to ask what we hold. Because we store no account and no identifying data, in practice there is nothing that can be linked back to you.
If you are in the UK, EU or a jurisdiction with comparable law, you have rights of access, rectification, erasure and objection. Requests can be sent to the address below and we will respond within 30 days.
Data retention
Aggregate event records are kept for up to 24 months so we can compare year-on-year trends, then deleted. Nothing in them identifies a person, and there is no profile to delete.
Children
StencilNest is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. Since no account can be created and no personal information is requested, there is nothing for a child to submit.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially — for example if we add a new advertising partner — we will update the date at the top and describe the change here. This version is dated 1 March 2025.
